artisticabandon: futuristic cityscape (Default)
Title: Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] siennavie
Words: 1,490
Ratings: G?
Warnings: Death, aftermath, grief, even if I dance around it. (I may have gone too far? Apparently my muse was a weepy sod for this.)
Notes: In memorium of the lost ones. Also, this is part of the bigger story that is never going to be written, so I guess the title (from the Green Day song) works lots of ways. Its also found on ao3 and ff.net, so there's that.

They have no answers... but that's okay. They don't even know the questions. )

Ever have a moment when you start organizing your life and then you find things which you so totes forgot you had which you so totally shouldn't have?

Yeah.

So. Um. Not admitting anything, at all. O_o (Really I'm not. Nope.)

Anyway, I'm going to try to make this thing a bit more relevant to me and my current level of geeky insaneness. Let's see how long I last this time, huh? :)

Title: Fracture Points
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] stella_pegasi
Word Count: 14,392/14,392 (2,812 this part)
Rating: PG for this part for swears, probably PG15 overall
Warnings: Somewhat graphic torture whump, and allusions to such.
Summary: A debriefing is a debriefing until its an interrogation. Or, the story about how to break and still stay whole.
Author Notes: I was asked for slice of life, team, Cam, and lots of whump. I hope this suffices. Full prompt(s) will be posted with final chapter, because, well, spoilers. Also a bit more rushed than I usually like, because well, deadlines. And a totally chaotic RL.
Note the second: Thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] midnighta for the totally awesomely fast beta. :)

Sorry I'm late with this part. Blame an across-state trip at short notice.

PROMPT: SGA ReverseBang art: Visitors to the Atlantis Settlement, by mific
Author: artisticabandon
Pairings: Gen
Time: SGA-S5 with SGA-S10...with complications.
Warnings: None that officially apply.
Notes: Whump, on and off-screen. H/C. Scifi logic. Time-travel with a twist. Parallel stories. Handwaving to canon and telepathy.
Other: some small swearing, some blood.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ameshinju for the original starting scene idea. Without it, there would be no story.

Summary: The thing about Pegasus, hell, the SGC program in general, is that the future can be your present as well as your past. (Or, the day that was so bad, no one's really sure how it started. The rest, well, the rest you'll have to find out for yourself...)

Author: artisticabandon
Recipient: tepring
Word Count: ~17K
Rating: PG
Warnings: Mild language; some themes; some blood; no more than the usual episode. :)
Summary: Never trust uninhabited planets and natives who have the advantage of home ground. Or, the reason why Rodney never thought John would remember his password. Team fic. Shep whump.
Timing: Set most likely just after Critical Mass (2x13), but definitely before Quarantine (4x13). Aka vague S2 and S3 ish.
Beta: Many thanks to rosalee for being the beta for this story. I didn't always listen, but then I'm stylistically stubborn like that. All mistakes left are mine. :) More detailed notes and prompt at end.

MISDIRECTION )
artisticabandon: futuristic cityscape (quirky)
...surprisingly hard to use to write something with.

This is where you can try it for yourself, based on this cartoon by xkcd.

So. I did it myself as a lark, and this is what I got to explain the Stargate's wormhole...

a simple explanation of a stargate...or not. )

Yeah, ok. So its not the best. But you can see where I'm going with this...
artisticabandon: cats stare. like a lot. (upsidedown)
So. I (lurk) mooch along in a few fandoms, and one of them is doing some "secret santa" thing. Near as I can gather, after watching similar things play out in other places, its some kinda fic exchange.

Best of all, its writing to a deadline...which I've never done. Ever. Me and my muse...don't historically do well with deadlines.

So. I signed up. Details can be found here. Cheer me on, people!!
artisticabandon: hug me i need coffee (hugs)
I was out shopping the other day, and the strangest thing happened. I saw merchandise to a show I don't even follow! What does it say about where I live that I nearly feel over in a squeeing dance of glee anyway?

I woulda bought the DVD too, if I'da had the money...

*headdesk*
artisticabandon: futuristic cityscape (city)
Okay, so the other day I had the chance to spend some not-so-quality time in a semi-deserted food court. Yummers. So I'm sitting there, struggling to drink this coffee that's really reheated bitumen, looking at all these empty tables, the stragglers, and just generally waiting for the stupid shopping mall to get going so I get started on some good old retail therapy. (Not that I had any money to buy, but its the thought that counts, right?)

And then it hits.

evidence of my strange brain under here )

Yeah. I'd *pay* to see that. Actually, I'd happily be paid to write/read it.

So. That's my thought for the day/week. And what does that say about me and the way my brain works?
artisticabandon: coffee & stupidity go together (coffee)
So. I got myself a (B&N) Nook the other day.

Its...hmmm....a very distracting piece of tech.

Its exactly what I've *always* wanted. Now I *can* stay awake to oh-dark-hundred reading awesome stories in my bed, without being restricted to a cumbersome computer (or a laptop). And I don't have to change all my thousands (yes, thousands) of html files to pdfs or epubs to get them onto the thing.

I think I'm in love....
artisticabandon: cats stare. like a lot. (cat)
Wow. Its been so long since I've written anything really *meaty* I feel...rusty.

So. Time to break out of the ol' wineskins...

I've created myself an AO3 account, under the same username as this journal. Time will tell if I post anything to it. :D Or it ends up like a sparse cupboard, like this journal is right now. At the very least, I'm hoping to post there the fics that are too long to post here.

I mean, seriously, whats the point of having a journal when you can only post so much to a cut? And have so many tags to a tag?
artisticabandon: futuristic cityscape (grief)
My poppa is actually my grandfather. He and nanna have been living with us -- extended family thing -- for 28 yrs. Kinda feels like I've lost both a parent and a sibling.

One thing I've learned from the whole experience.

what I remember... )

And another thing.

Warning: rant. And I mean, *rant* )

Yeah, I'm in that kind of mood.

In other news, I'm the kind of person who reads epics for fun. I devour 100k+ stories in an afternoon. And I need the distraction. Right now, I'm in DC / Stargate Atlantis / NCIS/LA / WhiteCollar fandoms, but I'll take what I can get right now. Any recs?
artisticabandon: futuristic cityscape (bat intimidation)

Bewarned. Spoilers abound.

But if you're reading this, and you don't know what's happened of late in DC comics...

Where on earth have you been??

Bats is dead. Long live the Bat.... (And yes, I *am* alive...) )
